Different Roles

AA’s within Edexcel do many different roles across many subjects and qualifications. Below is a summary of these roles.  Click on the role to get a more detailed description.

Role Summary
Examiner Marks the work of candidates in accordance with the agreed mark-scheme and procedures. 
Visiting Examiner Visit centres to mark forms of examination work, or to conduct and mark oral examinations, or to be present at practical examinations where the activity of candidates has to be observed as part of the marking procedure. 
Moderator Moderates centres assessment of candidates work in accordance with the agreed criteria and procedures. 
Visiting Moderator Visits centres to carry out the moderation of certain forms of work which is marked initially by Teacher Examiners/Assessors in the centres. 
Principal Examiner Sets the question paper and ensures standardising of its marking. 
Principal Moderator Ensuring internally assessed units meet the required standard and are consistent with the unit specification and assessment criteria. 
Chief Examiner Ensures that the examination as a whole meets the requirements of the specification and maintains standards year on year.  They also act as Principal Examiner or Principal Moderator for at least one component of the examination. 
Chair of Examiners Maintaining standards within a subject across different specifications from year to year. 
NQF External Verifier A BTEC NQF External Verifier verifies centre assessment decisions; this requires scrutiny of the assignment/s for the unit/s that are being presented for National Standards Sampling. 
NVQ External Verifier An External Verifier for NVQs is the formal representative of Edexcel, working in partnership with centres to quality assure Edexcel NVQ qualifications. 
Diploma Senior Assessment Associate A Diploma Senior Assessment Associate will be responsible for the support, preparation and delivery of the new Diploma qualifications.
